Navigating Text Marketing as a Young Living Brand Partner

May 06, 2024•9 min read

“Keep text messages predominantly value-based, offering insights, tips, or exclusive content that enriches the recipient's experience..” - Jamie Tangir

Introduction:

In today's digital age, Brand Partners constantly seek innovative ways to connect with their audience. Text messaging has emerged as a powerful tool in this endeavor, offering a more personal and immediate means of communication. With the rise of Bulk SMS Messaging, YL Brand Partners can now reach all their customers simultaneously, delivering timely and personalized messages with ease.

But how does the new marketing compliance with the emergence of The Campaign Registry (TCR) fit within the realm of Young Living compliance? As we delve into this topic, let's explore the benefits of bulk SMS messaging and how YL business owners can leverage this tool while ensuring to provide value and genuinely connect with their audience using this dynamic tool.

Understanding Bulk SMS Messaging:

Bulk SMS messaging enables Brand Partners to communicate with our customers en masse, whether it's to promote a new product, offer a special discount, or provide important updates. With an impressive market-wide open rate of 94%, SMS marketing presents an unparalleled opportunity to engage customers and drive action.

However, it's essential to tread carefully to maintain trust with your contacts and compliance within Text Messaging regulations in 2024!

Brand Partners must obtain explicit permission from recipients before sending bulk SMS messages, ensuring that subscribers understand what they're signing up for and how often they can expect to hear from the brand.

Once you have your opt-in list, every interaction presents an opportunity to deepen the bond of trust between a brand partner and its audience. By consistently adding value with each message, you not only establish yourself as a reliable source of information but also cultivate a sense of loyalty and goodwill among your contacts.

This entails a delicate balance of providing meaningful content that resonates with your recipients without inundating them with excessive marketing pitches. Respecting the direct access granted through text messaging means recognizing the intimacy of the platform and refraining from overwhelming contacts with incessant promotions.

Instead, it's advisable to keep text messages predominantly value-based, offering insights, tips, or exclusive content that enriches the recipient's experience. By prioritizing value over frequency and ensuring that every message serves a purpose beyond mere sales pitches, brands can foster a receptive audience that eagerly anticipates their offers and engages with them more meaningfully.

Text Messaging for the Young Living Brant Partner

With that said, here are 6 ways To Craft Effective Bulk SMS Messages that reep rewards from each message👊

1. Keep it concise:

When attaching a photo, a limit of 1600 character is allowed. Clearly convey your message while avoiding unnecessary fluff. When not attaching a photo the limit is 160 characters per text so we always recommend attaching a photo to text blasts.

While attempting to be as concise as possible, never use shorten links in a text message-such as bitly or tiny links. These links are hard for carriers to verify where you are sending your contacts to and are seen as spam.

2. Have a clear call-to-action:

Each message should have one clear objective, whether it's directing recipients to a website, offering a class or text tips, prompting them to make a purchase, or encouraging them to participate in a promotion. One-concise call-to-action will give your texts the best results!

3. Identify your brand:

Tailor your messages to resonate with your audience's interests and preferences, ensuring relevance and engagement. Before your audience even opens your text, they will decide if they should open and read it from the preview text given within their notifications. Brand Partners should Add your name or business name in the first line of your messages so they can identify who is texting them within the notification. You will notice most companies texting you now have:

Business Name: before their message. For example;

Tuttle Twins: Message here

This is for two reasons:

  1. To stay compliant with including your name/business name in each message

  2. Contacts will only see the first line of your message in their notifications before choosing to delete or open it.

You want them to know who is sending them a message so they open it and don’t swipe to delete it!

You could also be friendlier and say, “Hey, it’s Jamie!” This type of intro is included in all our workflow message templates.

Either way, be professional and include your business or first name at the top because you are being treated like a business by The Campaign Registry when you text market when sending promotional texts and also because your contacts will appreciate it! The majority of contacts DO NOT save you as a contact and will like the introduction with each text blast.

Here is an example of the amount of text someone will see when a new message comes through. I signed up to be on both of these text message lists and didn't save either as a contact-who has time for that?!?

Bella Luna clearly identifies themselves and that makes opening the text and reading it very inviting. While the first text uses and emoji and stands out, you can see how it looks like spam and has no adequate preview text giving you information as to who is sending the text so you know it isn't spam. We suggest a brand specific introduction for each text blast such as:

  • Diamond Marketing💎:

  • Jamie @ Natural and Glamorous 🌿:

You know your contacts best, so the only rule here is to give contacts a heads up who is popping into their text messages by including your name or business name first! Introduce yourself the way your contacts know you best! You want that notification to invoke a welcoming feeling for your contacts, not a protective feeling of "who is intruding into my texts?"

4. Understand your audience:

One of the most important aspects of text marketing is establishing a connection with your subscribers through each text you send. Each text is a chance for your subscribers to have personal and direct access to you and the support you provide.

We strongly recommend sharing value through text messaging and sharing promotions through email with the ocassional "ask" or offer coming through text. This strategy respects the direct access you have with your contacts via text messaging and will not only have them looking forward to your texts, but make it inviting for them to start a conversation with you!

Our Text Tips provide value weekly to your contacts, building trust with each tip so when you want to make an "ask" or an offer with a promotion or sale, they are far more responsive and open to the marketing.

5. Compliance and Responsibility

As Brand Partners navigate the world of bulk SMS messaging, it's crucial to prioritize compliance and responsibility. By obtaining explicit consent from recipients, respecting their preferences, and adhering to text messaging guidelines, we can leverage this powerful tool effectively while maintaining integrity and trust.

  • Use our list of trigger words to have contacts opt into weekly tips and text classes

  • Those who subscribe to a Leader or Mentor Plan have webpages included and will have a opt-in forms you can use to get contacts into your tips and classes.

Our system automatically adds some compliance features when texting someone for the first time using our Introduction text and New Customer Onboarding workflows.

  • OPT OUT language: The Opt Out word PASS is used so your contacts can choose to no longer receive text messages from you, eliminating the likelihood of them reporting your message as spam or using the word STOP. STOP and PASS will work to turn on that contacts DND (Do Not Disturb); however, PASS does not alert carriers to spam the way STOP does.

PASS in Diamond Marketing Triggers a DND (Do Not Disturb) in that contact for TEXT messages. You can still email them!

SHAFT is an acronym that represents the key elements of text marketing compliance and what is not allowed.

S - Sex

H - Hate

A - Alchohol

F - Firearms

T - Tobacco

For the Young Living Brand Partner specifically, there can be no mention, creative language or graphics of CBD over text messaging using a marketing (Campaign Registered) phone number.

6. Track your results:

Monitor the performance of your bulk SMS campaigns to understand what resonates with your audience and refine your approach accordingly. Inside of Diamond Marketing Bulk Actions store some basic results of your SMS. You can also set up a workflow for your Bulk SMS and add your desired contact tag or smartlist to the workflow to track messages delivered, opened and clicked as well as export a list of phone number that are not mobile numbers and add a DND so you don't send to those numbers again!

In Conclusion

Bulk SMS messaging offers Young Living Brand Partners a unique opportunity to connect with their customers on a personal and immediate level. By understanding the benefits of bulk SMS messaging and adhering to compliance regulations, businesses can harness the power of this tool to drive engagement, foster loyalty, and achieve their marketing goals within the framework of Young Living's guidelines.
